Jane Conquers America on Continental Tyres…

Triathlete charity fundraiser Jane Tomlinson entered the record books and the hearts of the nation again on Friday September 1st when she completed her ride across America riding on Continental GP4000 tyres.

The ride saw her cycle approx 3700 miles, climb over 3 mountain ranges (Sierra Neveda’s, Rockies and Appalachians), climb over 140,000+ ft and endure days of extreme heat (4 days over 40 degrees Celsius), high winds (40MPH), millions of crickets, some of the planets most desolate terrain and elevations in excess of 11,500ft (more than the height of Britain’s three peaks combined). On the ride Jane comments: “It was very difficult, and at times I thought I would not complete the ride. But the thought of my family and the fact that the monies raised will hopefully mean future families do not have to go through what mine have and eventually lose a love one prematurely kept me going.” One of her co-riders, triathlete Ryan Bowd, 27, a lecturer at the Leeds Metropolitan University, said that Jane had fought through “agony so fierce you can only appreciate it when you see it”. “As we rode, Jane was visibly in greater pain than I have ever seen her in. On the climbs you could hear her purging the pain through muffled grunts and groans.” He continued to say that each time this happened “something (would then) click into gear for her and she seemed to bottle up her pain and pick up the speed. I realised that I was watching Jane turn the impossible into the improbable and then reality.”

Jane is an extraordinary individual who since being diagnosed with terminal Cancer in 2000 and given only 6 months to live she has raised over £1.2 million pounds for charity through the completion of over 20 athletic challenges. In 2004 Jane became the worlds’ first terminally ill cancer sufferer to complete an Ironman Triathlon, the world’s toughest single day endurance event; which composes, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and full marathon. Other achievements include three London Marathons, the New York marathon, several Triathlons, and two long distant bike rides from Rome to Leeds and John O’groats to Land’s end. Money raised from the ride will go to supports Macmillan Cancer Relief, SPARKS (Children’s medical research charity) and several hospices and hospital units. Introducing the Top Contact touring tyre

Handmade in Germany

No touring tyre has been able to make that claim for a long time. The Top Contact picks up where "Pneumatics, SuperCorsas and Top Tourings" left off.
Just like its predecessors, it is ahead of its time thanks to new materials and design features. State of the art polymers in the rubber compound, Vectran breaker belts under the tread for the best and lightest puncture protection available in bicycles tyres today, and the prevailing German production quality all work to set the Top Contact apart from other touring tyres.

This tyre was requested by the demanding german touring market, a german made tyre for hassle free heavy duty touring mileage. The tyre combines a tough construction with a touring specific tread pattern designed to roll well and provide good traction in adverse condistions at the same time.

The Top Contact Winter contains sharp granules in the rubber compound, thus aiding grip in wet and snowy conditions.

Sizes: 26x1.75, 700x28, 700x32, 700x37, 700x42, 700x47

All the Top Contact tyre options are included in our SSG (Safety System Guarantee) which covers the tyre against punctures for one year from date of purchase. If you receive a puncture during this period, return the tyre to your dealer for a free replacement. The tyre also includes a FREE INNER TUBE.

Road riders gear up for winter

Continental's tyres which make those long training miles just a little easier

'Gatorskins', '4 Seasons' and 'Hometrainers' are all names which many cyclists find synonymous with their winter training programs.

Our Ultra Gatorskin is by far the most popular training tyre amongst road enthusiast due to its high puncture protection / light-weight ratio, diverse range of sizes and low cost.

Other riders 'treat' themselves to a GP 4Season, similar to the Gator, but made with a higher grade casing and with an extra puncture belt under the tread, with a folding bead. The GP 4Season is the delux winter training tyre which is used by the majority of our professional teams during the off season.

The UltraSport Hometrainer is a special new tyre designed for the indoor trainer. Its hard compound and special cold running compounds prolongs tyre life, and its quieter than regular tyres on the turbo drum too! "
